Appendix C: Replace DWG MWAutoNumber includes the option to create a special AutoNumber Format for replacing 2-dimensional DWG files with a 3-dimensional CAD model and drawing (often referred to as “promoting” them). For example, there could be a legacy DWG file registered within MechWorks PDM that has existing metadata, revision history, attachments, etrc…:

The designer needs to recreate this document as a 3-dimensional CAD model and drawing, and inherit its existing metadata – including its revision history, attachments, part number, etc. for the newly created 3- dimensional CAD model and drawing. To begin, the administrator needs to create a special AutoNumber Format and designate this AutoNumber Format as the one for replacing legacy DWG files:

NOTE: Activating the Replace DWG option removes almost all other variables from the displayed AutoNumber Format.
