Automatic: Rename File Only: Replace Part Number in ID for ALL Configurations For this example, an environment might have the following model with managed configurations registered within MechWorks PDM:

For this example, “ CD ” stands for “Concept Design” and represents a temporary naming format. Documents are assigned a “Concept Design” part number while in the initial conceptual phase of a design. If/when the document is going to be updated for manufacturing needs (within this example environment), then the documents must be renamed and assigned an “Engineering” part number beginning with “ ENG ”. If a user selects the “ CD 000132-001 ” configuration and uses an AutoNumber Format with the Rename File Only option and its Replace Part Number in ID for ALL Configurations option active, then the name of the file ( FILE_NAME ) will change along with their [ ID ] values:

The [ ID ] value for each of the managed brother configurations within MechWorks PDM is updated using a “replace” of the old file name ( CD 000132 ) with the new file name ( ENG 000697 ), but the name of its configuration will not be modified and the

configuration values for the brother configuration records managed within MechWorks PDM will not be modified:
