Automatic Rename File and Configuration For this example, an environment might have the following model with managed configurations registered

within MechWorks PDM. Notice that each managed configuration is assigned a unique “Concept Design” part number:

For this example, “ CD ” stands for “Concept Design” and represents a temporary naming format. Documents are assigned a “Concept Design” part number while in the initial conceptual phase of a design. If/when the document is going to be updated for manufacturing needs (within this example environment), then the documents must be renamed and assigned an “Engineering” part number beginning with “ ENG ”. If a user selects the “ CD 000133 ” configuration and uses an AutoNumber Format with the Rename File and Configuration option active, then the name of the file ( FILE_NAME ) will change along with the [ ID ] value and the [ CONFIGURATION ] value for the selected record, and its configuration is renamed within SolidWorks:

No changes will be applied to the other two managed configurations [ ID ] and [ CONFIGURATION ] values.
